FAQs
What is a cottage foods producer?
Minnesota’s cottage food law allows small-scale food producers to make and sell some types of less-hazardous food items out of a home kitchen without a special food license. Cottage foods producers make products that are homemade and not subject to state inspection.
Delikata has been registered as a cottage foods business with Minnesota since 2020. For more on cottage food laws, click here.
Do you have a storefront that I can visit?
No, we do not have a storefront. All our items are baked in a home kitchen, and are available for pickup or, in some cases, delivery in the greater Twin Cities area. We let our customers know where to pick up their items when they place an order.
How far in advance do I need to order?
Generally, we need a minimum of 7-10 days to create a custom order, and during busy periods (major holidays + early November/March/June), we generally need a minimum of two weeks. Rush orders are sometimes possible; get in touch and we’ll see if we can accommodate your request.
Do you do weddings?
We don’t do tiered wedding cakes at present, and we primarily focus on small (4” or 6”) celebration cakes. We’d be very happy to discuss wedding favors (chocolates, cookies, macarons, etc.) if those of are interest to you.
Can you make allergen-free products?
We are not a specialized allergen-free bakery, so if you need products that are certified gluten-free or nut-free, we unfortunately cannot accommodate your request. Our products are made in a home kitchen where common allergens are present. We *can* make some items without gluten, dairy, eggs, nuts, or soy, but we cannot rule out cross-contamination.
Can you make me something that’s not on your menu?
Maybe! We’re not able to whip up a paella for you, but if it’s something dessert-related, we will do our best. We for sure can make pies and tarts, and can certainly do cupcakes as well as brownies and other baked bar desserts. We have some limitations due to MN’s cottage food rules, but let’s chat and we can figure it out from there!
Do you ship your items?
Minnesota’s cottage food laws do not allow items to be shipped out of state. Stay tuned though — we hope to expand our product line to include a few non-food items in the future, and those we will be able to ship out of state.
Can you do custom orders?
Yes, we love to do custom orders! Most of what we make is made to order, and we are very happy to consult with you on a particular celebration case, cookie design, bonbon flavors, or other treats that meet you needs. Please email us to get the conversation going. We require a nonrefundable 50% deposit to begin work on a custom project, with the balance due two days before pickup/delivery.
Do you accept credit cards? What about cash?
Yes! We also accept Venmo and can also generate a PayPal invoice that will allow you to pay using a bank account or credit card. You don’t even need a PayPal account. We don’t generally accept cash payments except from friends and family or at in-person markets.
Can I order and pay via this website?
Yes. You can also place an order with us via email and pay using PayPal or Venmo, or call us with a credit card number that we can manually input for you.
Why are your prices so high? Do you offer discounts?
Apart from inflationary pressures that affect all food producers, our prices also reflect the quality of ingredients and the handmade processes that we use. For example, we use only fine European couverture for our chocolates rather than less-expensive compound chocolates that have fewer cocoa solids and that use cheaper vegetable oils rather than cocoa butter. Moreover, we prioritize fair-trade, sustainably sourced, and ethically produced chocolate — and all of that is not cheap. If our products don’t fit your price point, there are other good options out there! We currently do not offer any standing discounts, though we occasionally might offer special one-off discounts for our loyal customers. Join our mailing list, like our Facebook page, or follow us on Instagram if you would like to be informed of special promotions and future flash sales!
Do you offer lessons?
Not at this time. We have some recommendations for online classes and tutorials if you’re interested, from people far more talented than we are.
